March 19th 2011 was a very hard day on us. Unfortunately, in the early morning of that day in Libya, Benghazi was attacked. Gaddafi had violated the UN's Security Council resolution of ceasefire and no-fly-zone. Tanks and internationally banned heavy weapons were used to attack Benghazi. Many were killed and injured, but thank God our freedom fighters from the guys were able to defeat Qaddafi's forces and kick them out of Benghazi. There has been no any kind of communication in the eastern side for more than two weeks. We haven’t heard from our families until recently. Around 6 o’clock in the morning, my Mom told me that the house started shaking and they could hear the bombs very closely. Many families had to leave their houses and drove to a small city on the east of Benghazi called ‘Al-Marij’ including my family who had spent the night there. Al-Marij people had opened their houses to those people who sought refuge there. People in Benghazi are very grateful to our brothers and sisters in Al-Marij for their generosity and kindness.
However, I didn’t stop there. A massacre would have taken place if the French jets had not arrived to Libya to protect Benghazi. They had bombed Gaddafi’s reinforcement on their way to keep attacking Benghazi. "Benghazi mourns dead, heralds battle triumphs"
Mohamed Naboos
Before the attack on Benghazi, I and some of my friends were online watching the live stream of an online Libyan channel “Libya Alhurra” (Free Libya) that was launched by a guy from Benghazi named Mohammed Nabbous. This guy had two-way internet connection which cannot be shut down. We were following what was going on in Benghazi by watching his live stream as well as chatting with him among western reporters. After the attack started, Nabbous went out to videotape and report what was going on. We were listening to what was happening in the streets (his wife’s cell phone speaker was on in order for us to hear). We had heard gun shooting, and Nabbous shouting the name of his friend, and then his wife lost connection with him and we couldn’t hear nothing anymore. After a few hours we heard that Nabbous was critically injured. And after a couple of hours he passed away. We all felt so sorry for his lose. He was in his twenties. Brave smart young guy. May God bless his wife and his unborn child.
